JEE Destroyed My Mental Health. Here's How I Survived.
Everyone said JEE was 'just pressure.' But for me, it was torture. I'm a 17-year-old from Delhi. I've been studying for JEE for 3 years. My parents are supportive but intense. They sacrificed everything for my education. Extended family keeps asking 'what rank will you get?' The pressure is insane. Symptoms I developed: Month 1: Couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I panicked. Month 3: Started throwing up before exams. Anxiety became physical. Month 6: Stopped eating. Lost 10kg in 2 months. Month 10: Suicidal thoughts. I started googling 'how to...'. I didn't tell anyone. Why? Because in Indian culture, mental health = weakness. My parents would feel guilty. My friends would judge me. My teacher would think I can't handle studies. So I suffered alone. I tried: - YouTube meditation videos (didn't work) - Gym (made it worse) - Medications (parents wouldn't agree) - Pretending to be fine (got harder each day) Then one of my friends told me about Khusi - an app with mentors you can talk to anonymously. I was skeptical but desperate. I downloaded it. First conversation with Krishna: Me: "I'm preparing for JEE and I think I'm going insane." Krishna: "Tell me what's happening." And I just... broke down. For 30 minutes, I told him everything. The pressure. The anxiety. The suicidal thoughts. He didn't minimize it. He didn't say 'everyone goes through this.' He said: 'Your pain is real. JEE pressure is real. And you deserve support.' That's all I needed to hear. Over the next 2 months: Week 1: Talked to Krishna about exam anxiety. He gave me perspective - JEE is one exam, not your entire life. Week 2: Joined the Exam Stress community. Met 100+ other JEE students going through the same. Felt less alone immediately. Week 3: Started mood tracking. Realized my anxiety peaks before tests. Month 2: Developed a routine with daily tasks from Khusi. Sleep improved. Today: I'm still stressed about JEE. But I'm not suicidal. I'm functioning. Last week in class, I told my friend: 'I'm not okay, but I'm getting better.' My parents still don't know about the mental health part. But they noticed I'm sleeping better and less irritable. The real shift? Knowing that it's okay to not be okay. JEE is important. But my life is more important. To other JEE students reading this: This exam doesn't define you. Your mental health matters more than your rank. It's okay to struggle. It's okay to ask for help. Download Khusi. Join the exam stress community. Talk to a mentor. You're not weak. You're human. And you deserve support, regardless of your rank." āāā IMPACT SECTION: "How Khusi Helped: ā Anonymous (told the truth without shame) ā Immediate support (didn't have to wait for therapy) ā Community (200+ JEE students struggling together) ā Daily tasks (built a routine) ā Mood tracking (understood patterns) ā Free (cost wasn't a barrier) ā Saved my life during exam season" #JEEAnxiety #ExamStress #StudentMentalHealth #DepressionSupport #AnonymousHelp #YouAreNotAlone
